Slovenia hosts latest EuroHockey Institute transnational meeting

The EuroHockey Institute project partners were hosted by the Slovenian Hockey Federation in Moravske Toplice, in September this year. 

 The two-day meeting was a key point in the agreeing the principles around grassroots learning as well as beginning the launch sequence for the EuroHockey Institute. 

This included the assessment of the current Coach Education model and the workforce needs for the project following pilot programmes.  

This followed an evaluation of the framework from micro (National) to macro (Continental) level, maintaining the ability to mobilise learning and skill attribution through the systems and how the national federations will support this. 

The Slovenian Hockey Federation also took the guests to the local hockey club, HK Moravske Toplice, where they had the opportunity to see the activities of players of all generations, the infrastructure to get acquainted with the setup of the club. 

The second day focused on the launch of the EuroHockey Institute, highlighting the importance of education, learning and skills transference in sport and in hockey for all (volunteers, staff, boards, athletes, players and coaches etc). 

From there, the target is to draw up a communication plan that highlights the importance of how learning grows the grassroots development, by creating structures and role models which provide increased opportunities for more hockey to be accessed. 

Tom Pedersen Smith (Head of National Associations, EHF) thanked the Slovenian Hockey Federation, in particular Jana Bohar, for their hospitality: “It was a great meeting, surrounded by hockey people who have such great knowledge and enthusiasm for the game. I look forward to the formal launch of the institute next year. Helping athletes, coaches, officials and the European Hockey  workforce.”
